Overview

Michael Chapman has been dancing since the age of 11. Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee (USA), he had two brothers. His mother was a social dancer at a studio and decided to bring her three sons with her one day. Even though she had to pull Michael's two brothers by the ears, Michael fell instantly in love with the world of dance the first moment he walked in.

Michael has competed professionally for many years and was the 1992 and 1994 World Open Exhibition Dance Champion in Holland. He was also the 1992 and 1995 U.S. Pro-Am Grand Champion, the 1993 Triple Crown Exhibition Dance Champion, the 1992 and 1997 Canadian Exhibition Dance Champion, and the 1992 and 1996 Grand Finalist at the British Open Exhibition Championships held in Blackpool, England. He was named the 2001 U.S. representative for the World Latin Showdance Championships at the United States DanceSport Championships (USDSC) held in Miami, Florida.

Michael has guest starred at many exhibitions, was a principal dancer at the 1995 Super Bowl Half Time show and has appeared in the 1996 PBS special "Unforgettable Boleros" with Ricardo Montalban and the 1996 PBS Heritage Classic with Cyd Charisse.

In 2004, he began working with formation teams in China, bringing them to the British Open Championships where they have consistently placed first and second against more experienced teams.

Michael has organized one of the premier Ballroom events in North America, the Millennium DanceSport Championships since 1997, as well as the Florida Superstars DanceSport Championships, which gives out the largest Pro-Am and Professional cash prizes in America.

He is also a co-organizer of the Hollywood DanceSport Championships, along with Mary Murphy and Jonathan Roberts, and the Cuba International Ballroom Dance Championships with former dance partner Ana Llorente.

Michael Chapman is a world class adjudicator and coaches around the world. He has been an adjudicator for the Blackpool Dance Festival of 1999 as well as for the World Championships of 2001. He is currently a member of the National Dance Council of America and the World Dance Council.
