The National Dance Council of America, (NDCA)– is the Official Governing Council of Dance and Dancesport in the USA. With 17 Member Organizations encompassing more than 25,000 dance professionals and over 110 sanctioned competitions and championships, it is the leading authority of dance for Professionals, Amateurs and Pro/Am Competitors.
The dances that make up the list of DanceSport dances are performed competitively at amateur and professional levels throughout the world. Ten international style ballroom dances—five Standard and five Latin —are defined by the World Dance Council (WDC), which has world-wide membership of all countries taking part in ballroom competitions.
Latin dance refers to a type of Ballroom dancing and folk dancing that (with few exceptions) originated in Latin America. The category of Latin dance in International Style Latin DanceSport competitions consists of the Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and the Jive.
The term International Style refers to a particular style of Ballroom Dances developed in the Europe that contrasts with the American Style. In a narrower sense, it denotes the group of 10 Dances danced in International Style DanceSport competitions. The group consists of two programs: International Style Standard and International Style Latin.
Showdance is a type of Ballroom Dance event. May be danced in two divisions: Classic Showdance (Ballroom) or South American Showdance (Latin). Showdance performed competitively at Amateur and Professional levels throughout the world in both federations World DanceSport Federation(WDSF) and World Dance Council (WDC).
The International Championships, also known as the International Latin American Dance Championships, were created after the Second World War in England by Elsa Wells. The current full title of this event is the Elsa Wells International Dance Championships, and includes all categories of International Style Standard and International Style Latin Ballroom Dance. Currently, the International Championships are organized by Dance News.
German Open Championship (GOC) - one of the most prestigious WDSF DanceSport competitions in the world. With well over 5000 entries each year, the GOC now follows a five-day competition week.

The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF), formerly known as the International DanceSport Federation (IDSF), refers to the International Sports Governing Body of DanceSport and Wheelchair DanceSport. WDSF is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
DanceSport is the official term for competitive Ballroom Dancing, in contrast to Social Dancing or Exhibition Dancing.
