Retirement

On Thursday, October 13th 2016, at the International Championships held at the magnificent Royal Albert Hall, after competing for over 30 years, Maurizio Vescovo announced his retirement from Professional competition. Below are the words of appreciation to his loved ones and the whole industry of ballroom dancing.

Dear Friends, Colleagues and Family,

I am extremely happy to share this moment of my life with you tonight. After 30 years of dancing, I’ve decided that today is the perfect time for me to retire from the competitive career, and to continue with the new life of coaching and judging. It has been the most beautiful journey, and I decided to do it here tonight, at the Royal Albert Hall – one of the most prestigious places in the world, and a very important competition for me (International Championships). Because it was here, at the Internationals, that I achieved my first important final as an Amateur. And, I also have wanted this to be my last competition as a Professional. Like someone very important to me once said: “The best thing you can do in your dance career, is to find your perfect soulmate.” I know I found mine. So most of all, I’d like to thank my soulmate – Andra, who has given me the possibility to be ALL that I am today. Together we have achieved results that I’d never imagined. But, more importantly, we have touched the hearts of many people through our never ending love for dance. My wish now, is that she continues her dancing career with her fiancé (Aniello Langella), and a very good friend of mine. I wish them the best of luck in the many years to come, and I can’t wait to see them succeed. I would also like to thank my family and teachers, who have always helped me to believe in myself and to never give up.

Thanks, Thanks and Thanks to all my fans for always giving me the support. I am very lucky to be in this wonderful world of dancing. Filled with beautiful people who, just like me, love to dance, and express our souls through music and movement. I hope that I have been a good example for the future, and a good inspiration for the generation of ballroom dancers.
