Dirk Heidemann is a former Professional Ballroom dancer, today known to be one of the highest acclaimed teachers and choreographers in the world. Aside from working as a DanceSport coach and WDSF Adjudicator, Dirk is also a fashion icon as well as an author.

Overview

Dirk Heidemann was born on the 18th of April in Berlin, Germany. As a young Ballroom dancer, he went on to win the National German Youth Championships several times and was runner-up to the German Latin-American Amateur Championships. At the age of 17, he transitioned into the Professional division and in 1993, reached the Finals of the World Championship in the Freestyle World Cup of Latin-American dancing.

World Renowned Trainer & Choreographer

Dirk is a distinguished dance trainer of several world champion couples and is a coach of the official "German DanceSport Federation" (Deutscher Tanzsportverband e. V.) training team. He has trained Christoph Kies and Blanca Ribas Turón who have become 3-time World Champions in the category of 10-Dance.

Since 1999, Dirk has had a leading position in the Chinese world of dance. He was one of the most popular choreographers and art directors for the Presentation Shows during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. His DanceSport Musical, The Red Skirt, featured members of the Beijing Dance Academy and was a big success in 2001.

Dirk has authored articles on dancing contests, works as the German National Youth trainer in Latin American Dancing and is a Professor for competitive dancing at the Sports University of Zheng Zhou, China.

The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) commissioned Dirk in March of 2013 to choreograph a flash mob for the 2013 World DanceSport Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Dirk chose the song "Stamp Your Feet" of then recently deceased singer Donna Summer. In April 2013, a video in Sant Cugat, Spain was shot. The flash mob was presented at the World DanceSport Games opening event with great success. At the final event, around 6,500 athletes danced to "Stamp Your Feet" before live television cameras. "Stamp your Feet" is now regarded as one of the largest flash mobs in the world.

In 2015, Dirk led the Russian Champions Armen Tsaturyan and Svetlana Gudyno to win the WDSF European Championship and to become the vice-world champions in the WDSF World Latin Championship. Dirk has also trained the Israeli couple, Artyom Liaskovsky and Liana Odikadze, to became World Champions in the Under 21 Latin Championship. This was the first world title for Israel in DanceSport since the existence of the country.

Dirk owns his own dance studio - "Dirk Heidemann - Studio of Ballroom Dance" in Manchester, CT (USA).

Television Career

Dirk Heidemann has appeared in more than 10 talk and news shows on China Central Television (CCTV).

Between 2006 and 2010, Dirk Heidemann was a choreographer in two German casting shows - "So You Think You Can Dance" on Sat.1 and "German Idol" (Deutschland sucht den Superstar) on RTL.

In 2014, Dirk presented his first comedy TV Show "Germany's Most Embarrassing Dancers" on RTL Germany.

In 2017, he was offered to be a part of the adjudicating jury on the Austrian Dancing With the Stars TV Show.
